  1. Theognis

Theognis was a member of the Thirty Tyrants of Athens. Lysias was able to escape from the house of Damnippus, where Theognis was guarding other aristocrats rounded up by the Thirty. It is possible, that some ancient sources are correct in identifying Theognis the tyrant with the minor tragic poet of the same name, known from Aristophanes' mocking references to the frigidity of his poetry.

an elegiac poet of Megara; flourished in the second half of the 6th century B.C.; lost his possessions during a revolution at Megara, in which the democrats overpowered the aristocrats, to which party he belonged; compelled to live in exile, he found solace in the writing of poetry full of a practical and prudential wisdom, bitterly biased against democracy, and tinged with pessimism.
