  1. The Phantom

The Phantom is a long-running American adventure comic strip, first published by Lee Falk, the creator of Mandrake the Magician, in February 1936. The principal character, the Phantom, is a fictional costumed crimefighter who operates from the fictional African country of Bangalla. The character has been adapted into many media, including television, film, and video games. The series began with a daily newspaper strip on February 17, 1936, followed by a color Sunday strip on May 28, 1939; both are still running as of 2015. At the peak of its popularity, the strip was read by over 100 million people each day. Lee Falk continued working on The Phantom until his death in 1999. Today, the comic strip is produced by writer Tony DePaul and artists Paul Ryan and Terry Beatty. Previous artists on the newspaper strip include Ray Moore, Wilson McCoy, Bill Lignante, Sy Barry, George Olesen, Keith Williams, Fred Fredericks, Graham Nolan and Eduardo Barreto. New Phantom stories are published in comic books in different parts of the world, among them Dynamite Entertainment and Hermes Press in the United States, Egmont in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and Frew Publications in Australia.

My hunch on the Ditka quote is that it comes from a quirk of the King James translation, ancient Hebrew had a particular way of saying things like, 'and the next thing that happened was...' The King James translators of the Old Testament consistently rendered this as 'and it came to pass.' ''When phantom Bible passages turn dangerousPeople may get verses wrong, but they also mangle plenty of well-known biblical stories as well. Two examples: The scripture never says a whale swallowed Jonah, the Old Testament prophet, nor did any New Testament passages say that three wise men visited baby Jesus, scholars say. Those details may seem minor, but scholars say one popular phantom Bible story stands above the rest: The Genesis story about the fall of humanity. Most people know the popular version - Satan in the guise of a serpent tempts Eve to pick the forbidden apple from the Tree of Life. It's been downhill ever since. But the story in the book of Genesis never places Satan in the Garden of Eden.
