The Lord's Prayer
"The Lord's Prayer" is a musical setting of the Lord's Prayer written by Albert Hay Malotte in 1935 and recorded by numerous singers and groups including John Charles Thomas, Perry Como, Doris Day, Gracie Fields, Andrea Bocelli, Mahalia Jackson, Mario Lanza, Elvis Presley, Ronnie Milsap, The Staple Singers, Jackie Evancho, Il Divo and Susan Boyle. The song's melody is very similar to that of Schubert's "Ave Maria". Barbra Streisand recorded the song for A Christmas Album, Kristin Chenoweth for the album A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas and Il Divo for the album "The Christmas Collection". Sergio Franchi covered this song in his 1965 RCA Victor Billboard Top 40 album The Heart of Christmas.. He performed it most memorably on the December 26, 1965 broadcast of the CBS series The Ed Sullivan Show. This very rare Sergio Franchi video has been released by Sofa Entertainment, The Statler Brothers covered this song in their 1975 album "The Holy Bible - New Testament" Aretha Franklin included a live recording on her 1987 gospel album One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. "The Lord's Prayer" was also recorded by the American rock band The Beach Boys.
