Wikidata

  1. Terminological confusion

The image addition facility refers to the location of the image to be uploaded, e.g. "Freebase image", "Select an image on your drive. JPG, GIF, PNG formats preferred.", etc. Once uploaded, the edit options include: "Image location". This is confusing when the upload dialogue has already created a contextualised meaning of the term "location" as the location of the image file. The same term is now used to refer to the location of the subject of the image. Once again, the proffered list of autocomplete options is of types irrelevant to the type of the field data, so far from being helpful in providing a list of relevant types, it's even more confusing. I wanted to assert that, for the image in question (a screenshot), geographical location of the subject matter was actually inapplicable. Although negative, this could still be useful information for indexing / search. Are there plans to add generic metadata types which can be used to convey such information?
