  1. Television station

A television station is a business, organisation or other enterprise, such as an amateur television operator, that transmits content over terrestrial television. A television transmission can occur via analog television signals or, more recently, via digital television signals. Broadcast television systems standards are set by the government, and these vary around the world. Television stations broadcasting over an anolog system were typically limited to one television channel, but digital television enables broadcasting via subchannels as well. The term "television station" is normally applied to terrestrial television stations, and not to cable television or satellite television broadcasting. Television stations usually require a broadcast license from a government agency which sets the requirements and limitations on the station. In the United States, for example, a television license defines the broadcast range, or geographic area, that the station is limited to, allocates the broadcast frequency of the radio spectrum for that station's transmissions, sets limits on what types of television programs can be programmed for broadcast, and requires a station to broadcast a minimum amount of certain programs types, such as public affairs messages, among other conditions.

Examples of television station in a Sentence

  1. Danny Lavergne:

Southwestern Louisiana could get 15-20 inches of rain from Harvey. Flash floods warnings went into effect through Thursday as areas along the coast faced tropical storm warnings. Flooding has already taken over localized streets since Sunday, The Weather Channel reported. An emergency response official in a coastal Louisiana parish said the threat of flooding from Harvey's torrential rains could be new ground for us. Harvey has been blamed for at least five confirmed deaths, including a woman killed Monday in the town of Porter, northeast of Houston, when a large oak tree dislodged by heavy rains toppled onto her trailer home. In addition, a Houston television station reported Monday that six family members were believed to have drowned when their van was swept away by floodwaters. The KHOU report was attributed to three family members the station did not identify. No bodies have been recovered. The flooding was so widespread that the levels of city waterways have either equaled or surpassed those of Tropical Storm Allison from 2001, and no major highway has been spared some overflow. The city's normally bustling business district was virtually deserted Monday, with emergency vehicles making up most of the traffic. Most businesses were closed. In Louisiana, Danny Lavergne, director of Cameron Parish's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said approximately 30 roads in the parish were covered with water but remained passable by Monday morning. It's far from being over.

  2. Ken Martin:

A person familiar with the investigation confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday the boy was decapitated. Paul Oberhauser told local television station KCTV Paul Oberhauser shoulder restraint busted loose on Paul Oberhauser Verruckt raft July 26. The Nebraska man said The Nebraska man just held on, and a video shot by The Nebraska man wife shows the strap loose at the ride's end. Paul Oberhauser said Paul Oberhauser reported the matter to park workers. Kenneth Conrad, Kenneth Conrad, told WDAF-TV that during Kenneth Conrad trip down the waterslide last year with a friend, the friend's shoulder strap came completely off. Conrad's wife snapped a photo at the end of the ride showing the strap missing, and Kenneth Conrad didn't file a complaint with the park. The park's spokeswoman didn't return messages Tuesday from The Associated Press seeking comment on the claims. In a statement, she said a limited portion of the park will reopen at midday Wednesday. Riders sit in multi-person rafts that begin with the steep drop, followed by a surge up a second hill before a 50-foot descent to a finishing pool. Along the way, riders clutch ropes along the inside of the raft. In early tests, rafts carrying sandbags flew off the slide, prompting engineers to tear down half of the ride and reconfigure some angles. A promotional video about building the slide includes footage of two men riding a raft down a half-size test model and going slightly airborne as it crests the top of the first big hill. Caleb Schwab was in a raft with two adults who were not related to Caleb Schwab when Caleb Schwab was killed on the slide, certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest. The other two were treated for facial injuries. Police were investigating the death as a criminal case although police spokesman Cameron Morgan said Tuesday that designation did not mean they suspect foul play. Jon Rust, a professor of textile engineering at North Carolina State University, said the material used on the straps, commonly called hook and loop, isn't designed to keep a person in the seat. It also can get old and degrade with use. It's got to be used in a safe manner, and that doesn't include stopping someone's fall or preventing someone's ejection, Jon Rust said. Ken Martin, Ken Martin, questioned whether the straps were appropriate for what Ken Martin called nothing more than a roller coaster with water. Although Ken Martin has not seen or ridden Verruckt, Martin said a more solid restraint system that fits over the body - similar to those used in roller coasters - may have been better. I think we have a serious issue with the restraint system. Period.

  3. Jeremy Kappell:

I'm so disappointed that my career could end this way and I'm extremely disappointed by my television station, whom I expect a certain level of support from and I did not receive at all.
