Wikipedia

  1. Synovial membrane

The synovial membrane (also known as the synovial stratum, synovium or stratum synoviale) is a specialized connective tissue that lines the inner surface of capsules of synovial joints and tendon sheath. It makes direct contact with the fibrous membrane on the outside surface and with the synovial fluid lubricant on the inside surface. In contact with the synovial fluid at the tissue surface are many rounded macrophage-like synovial cells (type A) and also type B cells, which are also known as fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS). Type A cells maintain the synovial fluid by removing wear-and-tear debris. As for the FLS, they produce hyaluronan, as well as other extracellular components in the synovial fluid.

  1. synovial membrane

A synovial membrane is a specialized connective tissue that lines the inner surface of capsules of synovial joints and tendon sheaths. It secretes synovial fluid which lubricates and nourishes the joint, reducing friction between the articular cartilage during movement. It's also responsible for joint mobility, and plays a crucial role in the metabolic support of articular cartilage.

Wikidata

  1. Synovial membrane

Synovial membrane is the soft tissue found between the articular capsule and the joint cavity of synovial joints. The word "synovium" is related to the word "synovia", which is the clear, viscid, lubricating fluid secreted by synovial membranes. The word "synvovia" or "sinovia" was coined by Paracelsus, and may have been derived from the Greek word "syn" and the Latin word "ovum" because the synovial fluid in joints that have a cavity between the bearing surfaces is similar to egg white.

U.S. National Library of Medicine

  1. Synovial Membrane

The inner membrane of a joint capsule surrounding a freely movable joint. It is loosely attached to the external fibrous capsule and secretes SYNOVIAL FLUID.
