  1. Splentnoun

    Splents is a callous hard substance, or an insensible swelling, which breeds on or adheres to the shank-bone, and when it grows big spoils the shape of the leg. When there is but one, it is called a single splent; but when there is another opposite to it on the outside of the shank-bone, it is called a pegged or pinned splent. Farrier’s Dict.

    Etymology: Or perhaps splint; spinella, Italian.
