Wikipedia

  1. solarisation

The Sabatier effect, also known as pseudo-solarization (or pseudo-solarisation) and erroneously referred to as the Sabattier effect, is a phenomenon in photography in which the image recorded on a negative or on a photographic print is wholly or partially reversed in tone. Dark areas appear light or light areas appear dark. Solarization and pseudo-solarization are quite distinct effects. Over time, the "pseudo" has been dropped in many photographic darkroom circles and discussions, but the effect that is meant is the Sabattier effect and not the solarization by extreme overexposure (see below).

ChatGPT

  1. solarisation

Solarisation refers to the effect in photography where the image recorded on a negative or on a photographic print is wholly or partially reversed in tone. In a darkroom, it's when a print or a negative is exposed to a brief, controlled, flash of white light during the developing process. Dark areas may appear light and light areas dark. It can also refer to the process of overexposing photographic film to light to create a unique visual effect. This technique was popularised by artists like Man Ray and Lee Miller.

  1. Solarisation

Solarisation is a phenomenon in photography in which the image recorded on a negative or on a photographic print is wholly or partially reversed in tone. Dark areas appear light or light areas appear dark. The term is synonymous with the Sabattier effect when referring to negatives, but is technically incorrect when used to refer to prints. In short, the mechanism is due to halogen ions released within the halide grain by exposure diffusing to the grain surface in amounts sufficient to destroy the latent image.
