Wikidata

  1. Serengeti cat

The Serengeti is a breed of domestic cat, first developed by crossing a Bengal and an Oriental Shorthair. Recognized and registered by The International Cat Association, no other first generation crosses can be registered as Serengeti. From the Bengal × Oriental cross came the first foundation Serengeti. Breeders then worked with the cat to produce a cat that resembles the breed profile set by TICA. Created by Karen Sausman of Kingsmark Cattery in California in 1994, the breed is still in the development stages, but the ultimate aim is to produce a cat that looks similar to a serval, without using any recent wild cat blood. Serengetis are spotted cats, with long legs and very large, round tipped ears. They have a long neck which blends with the base of the skull without tapering. Males are generally slightly larger and heavier than females and can weigh between 10 to 15 lbs; females generally weigh between 8 and 12 lbs. Because the Bengal stock is a hybrid cat, the Serengeti is also classified as a hybrid.

The Serengeti Cat is a recently developed medium-sized breed with a distinctive wild look. They are distinguished by the muscular and strong body, long neck and very long legs.

They have an upright posture and embody elegance and agility. The modified wedge head sports large roundly tipped ears, a strong chin, rounded whisker pads, and large rounded eyes.

Their short and glossy spotted coat is the breed’s most notable trait and gives them exotic appearance.

Despite its wild look, the Serengeti is a friendly, vocal and high energy breed. These cats form deep bonds with their owners and like to follow them around offering useful advice.

They are highly active cats who love to jump on high places and to run through the house at full speed. Being a highly social breed, Serengeti doesn’t like being left alone and prefers having company at all times. (Source: The Dutiful Cat, https://bit.ly/2L4ajAE)
