He is the brother of Simon Peter and is a son of Jonah. He is referred to in the Orthodox tradition as the First-Called (Πρωτόκλητος, Prōtoklētos). According to Orthodox tradition, the apostolic successor to Andrew is the Patriarch of Constantinople.
