Wikipedia

  1. reproducing

Reproduction (or procreation or breeding) is the biological process by which new individual organisms – "offspring" – are produced from their "parent" or parents. Reproduction is a fundamental feature of all known life; each individual organism exists as the result of reproduction. There are two forms of reproduction: asexual and sexual. In asexual reproduction, an organism can reproduce without the involvement of another organism. Asexual reproduction is not limited to single-celled organisms. The cloning of an organism is a form of asexual reproduction. By asexual reproduction, an organism creates a genetically similar or identical copy of itself. The evolution of sexual reproduction is a major puzzle for biologists. The two-fold cost of sexual reproduction is that only 50% of organisms reproduce and organisms only pass on 50% of their genes.Sexual reproduction typically requires the sexual interaction of two specialized reproductive cells, called gametes, which contain half the number of chromosomes of normal cells and are created by meiosis, with typically a male fertilizing a female of the same species to create a fertilized zygote. This produces offspring organisms whose genetic characteristics are derived from those of the two parental organisms.

Examples of reproducing in a Sentence

  1. Drew Lerner:

The temperatures are going to be warm enough in the night to keep the crop stressed. And while reproducing, that, in theory, is not good for the crop.

  2. Sam Ellis:

We think a lot of the care is physically providing food to their adult sons, having a daughter does n’t affect your chance of reproducing again but having a son of any age is having a negative impact on the mother’s chance of reproducing.

  3. John Steinbeck, The Pastures of Heaven, p 56:

After the bare requisites of living and reproducing, man wants most to leave some record of himself, a proof, perhaps, that he has really existed. He leaves his proof on wood, on stone, or on the lives of other people. This deep desire exists in everyone, from the boy who scribbles on a wall to the Buddha who etches his image in the race mind. Life is so unreal. I think that we seriously doubt that we exist and go about trying to prove that we do.

  4. Michael Levin:

I was astounded by Tufts University, frogs have a way of reproducing that they normally use but when you... liberate( the cells) from the rest of the embryo and you give them a chance to figure out how to be in a new environment, not only do they figure out a new way to move, but they also figure out apparently a new way to reproduce.

  5. Olivier Toubia:

Reproducing a home environment is valuable to really show lifestyle images, it's not just about the product, but how it would be used as part of a lifestyle.
