Wikipedia

  1. posters

A poster is a large sheet that is placed either on a public space to promote something or on a wall as decoration. Typically, posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians, and films), propagandists, protestors, and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to the original artwork. The modern poster, as we know it, however, dates back to the 1840s and 1850s when the printing industry perfected colour lithography and made mass production possible.

U.S. National Library of Medicine

Examples of posters in a Sentence

  1. Nodin Nganji:

When it comes to protests that I've been part of here in Toronto, or ones that I saw in the media in Ottawa or Vancouver or Montreal, there were mostly two races -- Black and White. Yes, there were a few Asians, but very, very few, i see Black people raising posters, I see white people raising posters. I see very few Brown people engaging in these conversations, or protesting, or donating, or speaking out. I don't think many even recognize their privilege. I know we have some Asian people who are our allies, but from my end it's not enough.

  2. Anthony Christopher:

They are kind of pushy with the stickers and the posters, i know that I have walked past a couple of vendors and they have asked me if I wanted pins when they already gave me pins five minutes ago.

  3. Ellen DeGeneres:

Me and my sister, when we were younger, we had posters of him and blankets of him, and the posters have kissy marks on it with red lipstick.

  4. Mr Wrighton:

At that time, and without more context on the origin or intent of the posters, I responded hastily to the student, writing that I, too, was concerned. University staff also responded to ensure the posters were removed. These responses were mistakes. Every member of the GW community should feel welcome and supported, but I should have taken more time to understand the entire situation before commenting, i have since learned from our university’s scholars that the posters were designed by a Chinese-Australian artist, Badiucao, and they are a critique of China’s policies. Upon full understanding, I do not view these posters as racist ; they are political statements.

  5. Richard Di San Marzano:

The posters are a historical document but also illustrative of the use of art and development of artists in the country.
