Otwaynoun
Otway is a family name. We came from Danmark with Rollo to Normandy. The name may mean either, victorious in battle, or in the town of Duai, Normandy. We went to England in 1066 with William and settled thereafter in Cumbria, for the most part, Westmoreland, in the Lake District. John Otway went with the long parliament to Ireland and founded the Templederry branch of the family. Today we are found in Ireland, England Grenada, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Canada and Australia.
Etymology: Possibly a Cumbrian mispronunciation of a French place "au Duai" name or a Danish phrase victorious in "battle."
