Osteoprotegerin, also known as osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor, or tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 11B, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TNFRSF11B gene. Osteoprotegerin is a cytokine receptor, and a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily.

A secreted member of the TNF receptor superfamily that negatively regulates osteoclastogenesis. It is a soluble decoy receptor of RANK LIGAND that inhibits both CELL DIFFERENTIATION and function of OSTEOCLASTS by inhibiting the interaction between RANK LIGAND and RECEPTOR ACTIVATOR OF NUCLEAR FACTOR-KAPPA B.
