  1. norgestrel

Norgestrel is a synthetic form of progesterone, a hormone naturally produced by the human body. It is used primarily as a contraceptive in birth control pills and intrauterine devices (IUDs), either on its own or in combination with estrogen. In these forms, norgestrel can prevent ovulation, alter cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement, or change the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

Wikidata

  1. Norgestrel

Norgestrel is a progestin used in hormonal contraceptives. Norgestrel is a mixture of two stereoisomers, dextro-norgestrel and levo-norgestrel. Only levonorgestrel is biologically active. Therefore, while some medications may contain dextronorgestrel, they are often labeled in terms of their levonorgestrel content only, ignoring the inert isomer. It is used in the hormonal contraceptive Microgynon 30, among others.
