Niiji defines a person as an aboriginal from Turtle Island/North America, other than Inuit. Niiji has already replaced the term Indian in many cases among Native youth and elders and it could completely replace the term Indian just like the word Eskimo was replaced by name Inuit.

Natives from Turtle Island call themselves "Niiji" regardless of what nation they are from.

Actually I’m from two different tribes and my fathers tribe doesn’t use the word “Niijii” to describe himself and neither do I. Do a little more research and you’ll find this is a Anishinabe word that means “friend” and Idk how but it got bastardized yo the point that Black ppl are using this word as a term to classify ALL indigenous culture and ppl and that is racist

Aborigines by definition are dark skinned. Niigi refers to these people of the Americas before colonization not after. Your definition implies this is a new terminology by current native Americans - mainly to continue the disenfranchisement of people of color.

People of color are still here and never left! No matter how much the government tries to hide the cooper colored people aka blacks! They’re not African Americans and this is why they were never labeled as African in history for this very reason.

Idk if the ppl who run this website or not know but they’re are hundreds of tribes and languages across the Americas and we don’t all speak one language. But I am half Anishinabe and recognized this word as being the word meaning “friend” So, no. No. This definition is all the way wrong and misinforming ppl

Niiji is an Algonquin word used by the Algonquin people for a long long time, Algonquin people, also my ancestors. Now, the Anishinabe people might also have a use for the word, Niiji - but this does not negate that other tribes, bands or nations of actual First Nation or Actual Indigenous people can, too, have used the word.
