Necrobiosis Lipoidica is a rare chronic skin condition characterized by yellowish-brown, waxy plaques or patches on the skin, most often affecting the shins. The lesions it causes can be itchy, painful, and may ulcerate or scar.
Wikidata
Necrobiosis lipoidica
Necrobiosis lipoidica is a necrotising skin condition that usually occurs in patients with diabetes but can also be associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis. In the former case it may be called necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum. NLD occurs in approximately 0.3% of the diabetic population, with the majority of sufferers being women. The severity or control of diabetes in an individual does not affect who will or will not get NLD. Better maintenance of diabetes after being diagnosed with NLD will not change how quickly the NLD will resolve.
U.S. National Library of Medicine
Necrobiosis Lipoidica
A degenerative disease of the dermal connective tissue characterized by the development of erythematous papules or nodules in the pretibial area. The papules form plaques covered with telangiectatic vessels. More than half of the affected patients have diabetes.
