  1. Moods

Moods is the eighth studio album by Neil Diamond, released in 1972. It contained the second of his #1 songs, "Song Sung Blue", and was something of a follow-up in style to the highly experimental Tap Root Manuscript. Billboard praised Moods highly, saying it contained "brilliant, diversified material." This album, and its follow-up live album Hot August Night, are generally acknowledged to be the two most important recording projects of Diamond's career in terms of defining his signature sound for the future. Within the music industry and among music professionals this is considered one of Diamond's better and more creative recordings. Lee Holdridge was the arranger and conductor of the orchestra.

There are moods in which one feels the impulse to enter a tacit protest against too gross an appetite for pure aesthetics in this starving and sinning world. One turns half away, musingly, from certain beautiful useless things.

  3. Robert Biswas-Diener:

  4. Drew Allan Cicconi:

Looking at the waves, cresting then hitting the shore, only to retreat ignominiously back to sea, it reminded me that people are like waves. Their moods shift and turn, then crest before hitting the shore, and only some of the lucky few can ride that wave standing up, smoothly carving an intricate pattern as he or she rides towards a sun blanched shore. At times like this, I always like to quote from Macbeth’s soliloquy in act 5, scene 5 of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, when Macbeth heard of his wife’s death.
