Matrix multiplication
In mathematics, particularly in linear algebra, matrix multiplication is a binary operation that produces a matrix from two matrices. For matrix multiplication, the number of columns in the first matrix must be equal to the number of rows in the second matrix. The resulting matrix, known as the matrix product, has the number of rows of the first and the number of columns of the second matrix. The product of matrices A and B is denoted as AB.Matrix multiplication was first described by the French mathematician Jacques Philippe Marie Binet in 1812, to represent the composition of linear maps that are represented by matrices. Matrix multiplication is thus a basic tool of linear algebra, and as such has numerous applications in many areas of mathematics, as well as in applied mathematics, statistics, physics, economics, and engineering. Computing matrix products is a central operation in all computational applications of linear algebra.

matrix multiplication
Matrix multiplication is a binary operation between two matrices that produces a third matrix. The multiplication is defined by taking the rows from the first matrix and the columns from the second matrix and computing their dot products. The size of the resulting matrix is determined by the sizes of the original matrices - for a matrix of size m × n and a matrix of size n × p, the resulting matrix will have size m × p. A fundamental rule of matrix multiplication is that the number of columns in the first matrix must be equal to the number of rows in the second matrix for the operation to be valid.

Matrix multiplication
In mathematics, matrix multiplication is a binary operation that takes a pair of matrices, and produces another matrix. This term may refer to a number of different ways to multiply matrices, but most commonly refers to the matrix product. This article will use the following notational conventions. Matrices are represented by capital letters in bold, vectors in lowercase bold, and entries of vectors and matrices are italic.
