loganberry
A loganberry is a hybrid fruit created from a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. It was accidentally created by James Harvey Logan in Santa Cruz, California in 1883. The fruit is slightly longer than a raspberry, has a sharper, tart flavor, and can be eaten fresh off the vine or used in preserves, pies, and other desserts. The loganberry plant is also known for its vigorous growing habit and excellent disease resistance.
Wikidata
Loganberry
The loganberry is an hexaploid hybrid produced from pollination of a plant of the octaploid blackberry cultivar 'Aughinbaugh' by a diploid red raspberry. The plant and the fruit resemble the blackberry more than the raspberry, but the fruit color is a dark red, rather than black as in blackberries. Loganberries are cultivated commercially and by gardeners.
