  1. lichen planus

Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory condition that can occur on the skin, hair, fingernails, toenails, and mucous membranes. It is typically characterized by purplish, often itchy, flat bumps on the skin and white lacy patches or sores in the mouth or genitals. The exact cause of lichen planus is unknown, but it's believed to be related to an immune system response triggered by certain factors such as viral infections, allergens, or stress. Treatment usually focuses on relieving symptoms and might include topical creams, oral medications, or ultraviolet light therapy depending on the severity of the condition.

Wikidata

  1. Lichen planus

Lichen planus is a chronic mucocutaneous disease that affects the skin, tongue, and oral mucosa. The disease presents itself in the form of papules, lesions, or rashes. Lichen planus does not involve lichens, the fungus/algae symbionts that often grow on tree trunks; the name refers to the dry and undulating, "lichen-like" appearance of affected skin. It is sometimes associated with oxidative stress, certain medications and diseases, however the underlying pathology is currently unknown.

U.S. National Library of Medicine

  1. Lichen Planus

An inflammatory, pruritic disease of the skin and mucous membranes, which can be either generalized or localized. It is characterized by distinctive purplish, flat-topped papules having a predilection for the trunk and flexor surfaces. The lesions may be discrete or coalesce to form plaques. Histologically, there is a "saw-tooth" pattern of epidermal hyperplasia and vacuolar alteration of the basal layer of the epidermis along with an intense upper dermal inflammatory infiltrate composed predominantly of T-cells. Etiology is unknown.
