a river in Palestine that empties into the Dead Sea; John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan
The Jordan River or River Jordan is a 251-kilometre-long river in West Asia flowing to the Dead Sea. Currently, the river serves as the eastern border of the State of Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank and the western border of Jordan. According to Christianity, Jesus was baptised in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan takes its name from this river.
