It is part of the Dotdash Meredith family of brands owned by IAC.Investopedia offers educational technology into day trading, asset management, foreign exchange markets, as well as financial educational courses. It also hosts a stock market simulator. Self-paced, online courses from expert instructors are available on Investopedia Academy.

Based in Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, the site has become a well-respected source for financial information. In 2007, the site was purchased by U.S. publishing company Forbes which sold it to ValueClick in 2010 for $43 million.
