  1. Goodwick

"Wick" is probably derived from the old Norse word "vic" meaning bay - a place where one could land a boat. The "good" can mean kind, benevolent, favoured by God, holy - so this maybe was a place which the Vikings (the Norse-men) thought was a favourable place to beach their boats and maybe do a bit of pillaging and terrorising of the population as they sailed around the coasts of Britain and Ireland. Cf "Lerwick" where the "ler" means "muddy" - again, a suitable place to attempt a landing. Liverpool was originally "Lerpool" (it's still "Lerpwl" in Welsh) - "pool"/"pwl" (cf "Pill" in Somerset) is an inlet and the mud would have allowed the relatively safe beaching of a boat.
