Wikipedia

  1. gold medalist

A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture. Since the eighteenth century, gold medals have been awarded in the arts, for example, by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, usually as a symbol of an award to give an outstanding student some financial freedom. Others offer only the prestige of the award. Many organizations now award gold medals either annually or extraordinarily, including various academic societies. While some gold medals are solid gold, others are gold-plated or silver-gilt, like those of the Olympic Games, the Lorentz Medal, the United States Congressional Gold Medal and the Nobel Prize medal. Nobel Prize medals consist of 18 karat green gold plated with 24 karat gold. Before 1980 they were struck in 23 karat gold.

Examples of gold medalist in a Sentence

  1. Helen Maroulis:

I’ve had young athletes I’ve had to talk to about this. You have nothing to prove. Tell them how you actually feel and never lie about your symptoms. Pushing through because you don’t want them to think you’re weak is the worst thing you can do, i am a gold medalist, and I struggle with that. So I can’t imagine a high school kid – they’re just starting the path, chasing the dream. And they don’t want their coach to think they’re weak, or their parents or their teammates.

  2. Paul Casey:

I think it gets knocked quite a bit, doesn't it? it's like ‘Why do we need it?’ But the guys that are here are very aware what this means to one person. Well, it will be three medals, but to the gold medalist, it's massive.

  3. Caroline Dubois:

It’s mad how the level, the experience, the talent has all gone up, there’s so many talented people here with so many great styles. When Katie Taylor and Natasha were here, there were a few standout talents, like them and (two-time U.S. gold medalist) Claressa Shields. There were a few girls who were just above the rest. But the level has just gone up so much. Everything is even. Everybody is so talented.

  4. Kanoa Igarashi:

I know I'm capable of doing it, i know I have everything it takes to become a gold medalist.

  5. Akwasi Frimpong:

I could possibly almost qualify outright, meaning that I am as good -- maybe not as good as the gold medalist or the top 10 Europeans or whatsoever -- but I'm good enough to be in the world class sport that is dominated by Europeans, westerners.
