Wikipedia
goalie
In many team sports which involve scoring goals, the goalkeeper (sometimes termed goaltender, netminder, GK, goalie or keeper) is a designated player charged with directly preventing the opposing team from scoring by blocking or intercepting opposing shots on goal. Such positions exist in bandy, rink bandy, camogie, association football, Gaelic football, international rules football, floorball, handball, hurling, field hockey, ice hockey, roller hockey, lacrosse, ringette, rinkball, water polo, and shinty as well as in other sports. In most sports which involve scoring in a net, special rules apply to the goalkeeper that do not apply to other players. These rules are often instituted to protect the goalkeeper (being a target for dangerous or even violent actions). This is most apparent in sports such as ice hockey, field hockey, and lacrosse, where goalkeepers are required to wear special equipment like heavy pads and a face mask to protect their bodies from the impact of the playing object (e.g. ball or puck.) In some sports, goalkeepers may have the same rights as other players; in association football, for example, the keeper is allowed to kick the ball just as any other player, but may also use their hands to handle the ball in a restricted area. In other sports, goalkeepers may be limited in the actions they are allowed to take or the area of the field or rink where they may be; in the NHL, for example, goalkeepers may not play the puck in the restricted areas behind the net or take the puck across the red line.

Examples of goalie in a Sentence
He's played real good hockey for us, he's the best goalie in the playoffs as far as I'm concerned and he will be.
Weve always had the confidence in this room and tonight shows it, down late or running into a hot goalie, we know we can win games against this team. Were thrilled to be going back 1-1 and get back in front of that Pepsi Center crowd and try to get a lead in the series.
Our game got better as the game went on, we knew they were going to push and they pushed all night. They played solid. They made us work for every inch. Binnington made a ton of saves and so did our goalie.
He’s (Shesterkin) had a pretty great season and he’s a pretty good goalie, the shots are fine but we say it a lot. We had some traffic in front of the net but not enough, I think. We had some good chances, so that will come.
I thought we had some chances early on, some good looks, would have been nice to take a lead, play with a lead against a team like that. Their goalie played well but I still think we could have created a little bit more and had a little bit more of a push at the end.
