  1. family anhimidae

Family Anhimidae is a group of large terrestrial birds native to South America, commonly known as screamers. They are known for their loud, distinctive calls and their ability to run and swim well, but are poor at flying. This family includes three bird species: the Horned Screamer, the Northern Screamer, and the Southern Screamer. These birds have relatively small heads and long necks and legs, and are also characterized by having a small, hooked beak and a featherless, bright red spot of skin on their forehead. They are mostly vegetarian, feeding on plant stems, seeds, leaves, and, occasionally, small animals. This family is the only extant family in the order Anseriformes that is not included in the family Anatidae (ducks, geese, and swans).
