Wikipedia
Elephantidae
Elephantidae is a family of large, herbivorous proboscidean mammals collectively called elephants and mammoths. These are terrestrial large mammals with a snout modified into a trunk and teeth modified into tusks. Most genera and species in the family are extinct. Only two genera, Loxodonta (African elephants) and Elephas (Asian elephants), are living. The family was first described by John Edward Gray in 1821, and later assigned to taxonomic ranks within the order Proboscidea. Elephantidae has been revised by various authors to include or exclude other extinct proboscidean genera.

Elephantidae is a taxonomic family within the order of Proboscidea, which includes the various species of elephants - both the African elephants (with two subspecies) and the Asian elephant. These creatures are the largest land animals currently existing, characterized by their long tusks, prehensile trunk, large ears, and a tough, thick skin. They are marked by their high intelligence and advanced social behaviors. The Elephantidae family has been in existence for millions of years, with several extinct species such as the mammoths and mastodons.
