Eistnaflug
Eistnaflug is an indoor metal festival that has taken place in Iceland, annually on the second weekend of July each year since its inception, 27 August 2005. The festival began as a small, one-day party for a few Icelandic bands and their friends to attend. Back then all of the visitors and bands literally fit into a 50 person bus. The festival has since grown into a four-day festival where metal, hardcore, punk, rock and indie bands share the stage. In 2017 the number of attendees was significantly more with 2000-2500 rockers enjoying music on the edge of the world. As the festival continued over the years it attracted a wide variety of not only metal and rock fans but fans of genre-bending music. In 2019 the festival remains four days but will go back to its roots, being held in a more intimate setting at Neskaupstaður's Egilsbúð facility. The line up usually consists of 30-40 bands, most of which are Icelandic. Some non-Icelandic bands that have performed at the festival are At The Gates (SE), Napalm Death (UK), Redfang (US), Secrets of The Moon (DE), Triptykon (CHE), The Monolith Deathcult (NL) and Cephalic Carnage (US). A few domestic bands that have often performed at the festival include Auðn, Dimma, Saktmóðigur, Kontinuum, Legend, Skálmöld, Sólstafir, The Vintage Caravan and many more. Musically, Eistnaflug is also a remarkable melting pot, with a few selected, prime acts from abroad stacking up against a massive selection of all the great things the Icelandic music scene has to offer every year. There are no boundaries – from indie rock to hardcore to black metal, everything that’s good is accepted and embraced at Eistnaflug.
