  1. Cushing's disease, hyperadrenalismnoun

a glandular disorder caused by excessive ACTH resulting in greater than normal functioning of the adrenal gland; characterized by obesity

Wikipedia

  1. Cushing's disease

Cushing's disease is one cause of Cushing's syndrome characterised by increased secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the anterior pituitary (secondary hypercortisolism). This is most often as a result of a pituitary adenoma (specifically pituitary basophilism) or due to excess production of hypothalamus CRH (corticotropin releasing hormone) (tertiary hypercortisolism/hypercorticism) that stimulates the synthesis of cortisol by the adrenal glands. Pituitary adenomas are responsible for 80% of endogenous Cushing's syndrome, when excluding Cushing's syndrome from exogenously administered corticosteroids. The equine version of this disease is Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction. This should not be confused with ectopic Cushing syndrome or exogenous steroid use.

  1. cushing's disease

Cushing's disease is a condition caused by an excess of the hormone cortisol in the body, typically resulting from a tumor on the pituitary gland. This hormone excess can lead to symptoms such as weight gain, fatty deposits around the abdomen and face, fatigue, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, thin skin, mood swings and irregular menstrual cycles in women. The disease is a form of Cushing's syndrome and is named after Harvey Cushing, the neurosurgeon who first described the condition.
