clean slate
A clean slate refers to a fresh start or new beginning where past mistakes, failures, or negative experiences are forgotten or disregarded. It's often used in contexts where someone is given another chance without considering their previous actions or behaviors. The term originates from when slates were used for writing or keeping scores, and cleaning it would erase all past records.

This makes it hard for him to know who to trust, or if he even knows them at all. Valeria Golino, Michael Gambon, James Earl Jones, Bryan Cranston, and Kevin Pollak co-star.
