ChatGPT
chlorophyta
Chlorophyta is a phylum within the kingdom Plantae consisting of green algae, which are primarily aquatic organisms. They contain photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll a and b, along with various other pigments, and store food as starch in their plastids. The chlorophyta are generally unicellular but can also form colonies, filaments, or even complex seaweed-like structures. They play an important role in aquatic ecosystems, both as primary producers and as food for aquatic animals. The group also has significant scientific interest as it is considered the lineage from which land plants evolved.
Wikidata
Chlorophyta
Chlorophyta is a division of green algae, informally called chlorophytes. The name is used in two very different senses, so care is needed to determine the use by a particular author. In older classification systems, it refers to a highly paraphyletic group of all the green algae within the green plants and thus includes about 7,000 species of mostly aquatic photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms. Like the land plants, green algae contain chlorophylls a and b and store food as starch in their plastids. In newer classifications, it refers to one of the two clades making up the Viridiplantae, which are the chlorophytes and the streptophytes or charophytes. In this sense it includes only about 4,300 species.
