bursitis
Bursitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation or swelling of a 'bursa', which are small fluid-filled sacs that act as cushions among your bones and the tendons and muscles near your joints. This condition often affects common joints such as the shoulder, hip, elbow and knee, typically causing symptoms like pain, swelling and limited movement in the affected area. It is often caused by repetitive, minor impact on the area, or from a sudden, more serious injury. Bursitis can also be caused by age, certain systemic diseases and conditions, or infections.

Wikidata
Bursitis
Bursitis is the inflammation of one or more bursae of synovial fluid in the body. The bursae rest at the points where internal functionaries, such as muscles and tendons, slide across bone. Healthy bursae create a smooth, almost frictionless functional gliding surface making normal movement painless. When bursitis occurs, however, movement relying upon the inflamed bursa becomes difficult and painful. Moreover, movement of tendons and muscles over the inflamed bursa aggravates its inflammation, perpetuating the problem. Muscle can also be stiffened.
U.S. National Library of Medicine
Bursitis
Inflammation or irritation of a bursa, the fibrous sac that acts as a cushion between moving structures of bones, muscles, tendons or skin.
