breeder reactornoun
a nuclear reactor that produces more fissile material than it burns
Wikipedia
Breeder reactor
A breeder reactor is a nuclear reactor that generates more fissile material than it consumes. Breeder reactors achieve this because their neutron economy is high enough to create more fissile fuel than they use, by irradiation of a fertile material, such as uranium-238 or thorium-232, that is loaded into the reactor along with fissile fuel. Breeders were at first found attractive because they made more complete use of uranium fuel than light water reactors, but interest declined after the 1960s as more uranium reserves were found, and new methods of uranium enrichment reduced fuel costs.

breeder reactor
A breeder reactor is a type of nuclear reactor that generates more fissile material (material that is capable of sustaining a nuclear fission chain reaction) than it consumes, through a process called nuclear breeding. This type of reactor is typically designed to use plutonium or uranium as fuel and produces a significant amount of useful energy through nuclear reactions. The excess fissile material produced can be extracted and used as fuel in other nuclear reactors.
Wikidata
Breeder reactor
A breeder reactor is a nuclear reactor capable of generating more fissile material than it consumes because its neutron economy is high enough to breed fissile fuel from fertile material like uranium-238 or thorium-232. Breeders were at first considered attractive because of their superior fuel economy compared to light water reactors. Interest in breeders declined after the 1960s as more uranium reserves were found, and new methods of uranium enrichment reduced fuel costs. In more recent decades, breeder reactors are again of research interest as a means of controlling nuclear waste and closing the nuclear fuel cycle.
