Alice Paul was an American suffragist, feminist, and women's rights activist who was one of the main leaders and strategists of the campaign for the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits sex discrimination in the right to vote. Born in 1885, Paul also founded the National Woman's Party in 1916, which fought for women's equality in law and society. After the 19th Amendment was passed, she authored the Equal Rights Amendment, which has yet to be adopted. She passed away in 1977.
