Wikipedia
Aldose
An aldose is a monosaccharide (a simple sugar) with a carbon backbone chain with a carbonyl group on the endmost carbon atom, making it an aldehyde, and hydroxyl groups connected to all the other carbon atoms. Aldoses can be distinguished from ketoses, which have the carbonyl group away from the end of the molecule, and are therefore ketones.

aldose
An aldose is a type of monosaccharide (simple sugar) that contains an aldehyde group (-CHO) at one end and hydroxyl groups (-OH) at all other positions. These carbons can vary in number from three to six or more, resulting in a variety of different aldose sugars, including glucose and galactose.
Wikidata
Aldose
An aldose is a monosaccharide that contains only one aldehyde group per molecule. The chemical formula takes the form Cnn. The simplest possible aldose is the diose glycolaldehyde, which only contains two carbon atoms. Because they have at least one asymmetric carbon center, aldoses with three or more carbon atoms exhibit stereoisomerism. This means an aldose can exist in either a D form or L form of a Fischer projection. Biological systems tend to recognize D-aldoses more than L-aldoses. An aldose differs from a ketose in that it has a carbonyl group at the end of the carbon chain instead of in the middle. This allows ketoses and aldoses to be chemically differentiated through Seliwanoff's test. An aldose may isomerize to a ketose through the Lobry-de Bruyn-van Ekenstein transformation.
