The area consists mainly of Victorian stone-fronted terraced housing and has a relatively high student population. The area falls into the catchment of Forge Valley School, a secondary which was judged by Ofsted as requires improvement in April 2017, though noted to have good provision for the 16 to 19 study programmes.
