The surname "Sithole" is derived from the Zulu word "isithole" meaning a calf. Most African surnames are derived from specific animals which certain tribes or clans associate themselves with. Therefore, the Sithole clan associates with a calf of a cow, hence "isithole senkomo", meaning a calf of a cow.
