    Sequoia Gigantea refers to a species of coniferous tree known as the giant sequoia or giant redwood. They are native to the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, USA. Known for their extraordinarily large size and debated as the largest tree by volume, they have a reddish-brown, thick and spongy bark which helps protect them from flames and pests. They can live for over 3,000 years and are among the oldest living organisms on earth. Belonging to the Cupressaceae family, they can grow to be over 250 feet tall and up to 30 feet in diameter.
