GCIDE

  1. qubitnoun

A measure of information, being the information that can be stored in one object that can take a quantum state of 0 or 1. It differs from the classical bit of information theory in that quantum states may assume many intermediate states that are superpositions of the individual discrete states; the quantum states of multiple quantum systems may also be correlated by a phenomenon called entanglement, increasing the complexity of the information storage and retrieval process. Wiktionary

  1. qubitnoun

A quantum bit; the unit of quantum information; a bit in a quantum computer capable of being in a state of superposition.

  2. Etymology: influenced by cubit.

Wikipedia

  1. Qubit

In quantum computing, a qubit () or quantum bit is a basic unit of quantum information—the quantum version of the classic binary bit physically realized with a two-state device. A qubit is a two-state (or two-level) quantum-mechanical system, one of the simplest quantum systems displaying the peculiarity of quantum mechanics. Examples include the spin of the electron in which the two levels can be taken as spin up and spin down; or the polarization of a single photon in which the two states can be taken to be the vertical polarization and the horizontal polarization. In a classical system, a bit would have to be in one state or the other. However, quantum mechanics allows the qubit to be in a coherent superposition of both states simultaneously, a property that is fundamental to quantum mechanics and quantum computing.

  1. Qubit

In quantum computing, a qubit or quantum bit is a unit of quantum information—the quantum analogue of the classical bit. A qubit is a two-state quantum-mechanical system such as the polarization of a single photon: here the two states are vertical polarization and horizontal polarization. In a classical system, a bit would have to be in one state or the other, but quantum mechanics allows the qubit to be in a superposition of both states at the same time, a property which is fundamental to quantum computing.

Usually there are two types of quantum information processing, there's the qubit type, the digital information processing, and there's continuous variable, a sort of analog type of quantum information. We are trying to combine them.
