Wikidata

  1. Pennsylvanian

The Pennsylvanian is, in the ICS geologic timescale, the younger of two subperiods of the Carboniferous Period. It lasted from roughly 323.2 ± 1.3 to 298.9 ± 0.8 Ma. As with most other geochronologic units, the rock beds that define the Pennsylvanian are well identified, but the exact date of the start and end are uncertain by a few million years. The Pennsylvanian is named after the American state of Pennsylvania, where the coal-productive beds of this age are widespread. The division between Pennsylvanian and Mississippian comes from North American stratigraphy. In North America, where the early Carboniferous beds are primarily marine limestones, the Pennsylvanian was in the past treated as a full fledged geologic period between the Mississippian and the Permian. In Europe, the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian are one more-or-less continuous sequence of lowland continental deposits and are grouped together as the Carboniferous Period. The current internationally used geologic timescale of the ICS gives the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian the rank of subperiods, subdivisions of the Carboniferous Period.

Examples of Pennsylvanian in a Sentence

  1. No Pennsylvanian:

Racism and hate speech are always unacceptable, and unworthy of Pennsylvanians. No Pennsylvanian should ever be made to feel unwelcome in our commonwealth because of their race or ethnicity. Gisele Fetterman spends much of Gisele Fetterman time devoted to making our state and world a better place and she -- and every No Pennsylvanian -- deserves our respect, not the hatred too often displayed by people who seek only to further divide this country at a time when unity is so desperately needed.

  2. Tom Wolf:

I'm going to fight like hell to protect the vote of every Pennsylvanian.

  3. The Pennsylvania:

This evening I received a gracious phone call from David McCormick and am tremendously grateful for his pledge of support in the fall election. We share the goal of a brighter future for Pennsylvania and America. Now that our primary is over, we will make sure that this U.S. Senate seat does not fall into the hands of the radical left, led by John Fetterman. I look forward to campaigning in every corner of the Commonwealth for the next five months to earn the support of every Pennsylvanian. despite the fact that David McCormick has conceded the Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Senate race to Mehmet Oz, the automatic recount of the race will continue as ordered by the Secretary. The deadline for the defeated candidate to waive the recount has passed, and there is no provision in the election code that authorizes the Secretary to stop an automatic recount once it is ordered. Counties should continue their efforts to complete their recount by noon on June 7 and submit their results to the Secretary by noon on June 8.

  4. Joe Calvello:

We like to have fun with the Jersey Shore thing, but it is not just that he is from Jersey Shore. He is not one of us, he is not a Pennsylvanian, he does not understand the struggles that Pennsylvanians are going through. ... It goes deeper than that.
