Pathak is mainly used by Hindu Brahmin communities of North India, most prevalent in Kashmir, Bihar, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. However, it can also be found in Nepal, Assam, Orissa, and Maharashtra.
