Wikipedia

  1. Pangaea

Pangaea or Pangea () was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. It assembled from the earlier continental units of Gondwana, Euramerica and Siberia during the Carboniferous approximately 335 million years ago, and began to break apart about 200 million years ago, at the end of the Triassic and beginning of the Jurassic. In contrast to the present Earth and its distribution of continental mass, Pangaea was centred on the equator and surrounded by the superocean Panthalassa and the Paleo-Tethys and subsequent Tethys Oceans. Pangaea is the most recent supercontinent to have existed and the first to be reconstructed by geologists.

  1. pangaea

Pangaea is a theoretical supercontinent that existed approximately 335 to 175 million years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. The concept of Pangaea was proposed by the German scientist Alfred Wegener in 1912, as part of his theory of continental drift. It is believed to have consisted of all the Earth's continents joined together, before the tectonic forces broke it apart and formed the continents as we know them today. The term "Pangaea" comes from the ancient Greek words meaning "all lands."

  1. Pangaea

Pangaea, Pangæa, or Pangea was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras, forming about 300 million years ago. It began to break apart around 200 million years ago. The single global ocean which surrounded Pangaea is accordingly named Panthalassa. The name Pangaea is derived from Ancient Greek pan meaning "entire", and Gaia meaning "Earth". The name was coined during a 1927 symposium discussing Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift. In his book The Origin of Continents and Oceans, first published in 1915, he postulated that prior to breaking up and drifting to their present locations, all the continents had at one time formed a single supercontinent which he called the "Urkontinent".
