    Otway is a village in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 87 at the 2010 census. The first house in Otway was built in 1841, and the first post office served the area in 1847. The village was platted March 29, 1884.

    Otway is a family name. We came from Danmark with Rollo to Normandy. The name may mean either, victorious in battle, or in the town of Duai, Normandy. We went to England in 1066 with William and settled thereafter in Cumbria, for the most part, Westmoreland, in the Lake District. John Otway went with the long parliament to Ireland and founded the Templederry branch of the family. Today we are found in Ireland, England Grenada, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Canada and Australia.

    Etymology: Possibly a Cumbrian mispronunciation of a French place "au Duai" name or a Danish phrase victorious in "battle."

    Otway is a family name, originally Danes who settled in Normandy, France with Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy. The two possible means are 1. Victorious in Battle 2. In the town of Duai in Normandy. We went with William to England in 1066 and many of us settled in Cumbria, in the lake district after the conquest. A branch of the family descends from John Otway who went to Ireland with the long parliament. Today Otways are found in England, Ireland, Australia, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, and Canada.
