  1. lachkick

Lachkick is a compound of lach (dutch for laugh) and kick, an english loanword (itself a compound borrowed from the German Lehnwort... ) In Dutch "kick" is applied in a somewhat different way than its intended origin. In Dutch, Kick means being high on something, mainly related to cannabis, but it found its way into mainstream use to describe any sort of involuntary response to a circumstance, like vreetkick (binge eating) and lachkick (bust a gut laughing).

That joke made me bust my gut laughing! I couldn't stop laughing watching the slapstick situation unfold before my eyes! It cracked me up when I pictured that in my minds' eye! The image stuck on repeat, I couldn't stop laughing!

Etymology: Lachkick is a Dutch word, and it seems there is no english word for it other than a descriptive one. Structurally, English being a blend of both roots, and French being dominant in the English courts and the aristocracy for almost 400 years throughout the Dark Ages, English leans more towards the Roman structure of using adjectives, though the word order has stayed more Germanic. In English you don't put adjectives behind the noun like in French or Spanish. Sticking with school bus, the Romanic structure puts the adjectives after the noun: autobus escolar (ES). If you break it down, it is one of many compound words, a linguistic structure applied in Germanic languages. Similar to a Portmanteau (guesstimate) it creates a new word. Unlike the Roman languages where you "simply" use it as an adjective to describe a new specificity of a noun: school bus vs schoolbus, in Dutch, a Germanic language, this becomes a new compound word. The benefit is, that it can obtain its own domain where it gets rooted into the subconsciousness of a language, where it can expand to other expressions: in Dutch it found its way into mainstream use to describe any sort of involuntary response to a circumstance, like vreetkick (binge eating) en lachkick (bust a gut laughing). While in English you can say "to get a kick out of something" it doesn't come close to the raw involuntary response from the reptile brain (your limbic system) taking over rendering you defenseless to it, when referring to "kick" in Dutch.
