bernese mountain dog
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large-sized breed of working dog originating from Switzerland, specifically from the Bern region, hence its name. They are recognized by their distinctive tri-color coat, typically black, white and rust. Famous for their strength, agility, and versatility, these dogs were initially bred for herding cattle and as draft animals to pull carts. They have a gentle, calm, and loyal demeanor, making them good companions and family pets. However, they need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. The lifespan of a Bernese Mountain Dog is relatively short, around 7-10 years, due to their vulnerability to certain genetic conditions.

Bernese Mountain Dog
The Bernese Mountain Dog, called in German the Berner Sennenhund, is a large breed of dog, one of the four breeds of Sennenhund-type dogs from the Swiss Alps. The name Sennenhund is derived from the German "Senne" and "hund", as they accompanied the alpine herders and dairymen called Senn. Berner refers to the area of the breed's origin, in the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. This mountain dog was originally kept as a general farm dog. Large Sennenhunds in the past were also used as draft animals, pulling carts. The breed was officially established in 1907. In 1937, the American Kennel Club recognised it as a member of the Working Group.
