Mumbi Mukasa was a story that was told in Bemba land as detailed above. This lady was found in the middle of nowhere in Chitimukulu area, Kasama/Mungwi. She was so beautiful that the Chief wanted her for a wife. When she was asked, she said in Bemba 'nine Mumbi Mukasa, mponenefye kumulu.' Meaning, 'I'm Mumbi Mukasa dropped from heaven.' So that's basically what MUMBI means. |
