vapor lock, vapour locknoun
a stoppage in a pipeline caused by gas bubbles (especially a stoppage that develops in hot weather in an internal-combustion engine when fuel in the gas line boils and forms bubbles that block the flow of gasoline to the carburetor)
Wikipedia
vapour lock
Vapor lock is a problem caused by liquid fuel changing state to gas while still in the fuel delivery system of gasoline-fueled internal combustion engines. This disrupts the operation of the fuel pump, causing loss of feed pressure to the carburetor or fuel injection system, resulting in transient loss of power or complete stalling. Restarting the engine from this state may be difficult. The fuel can vaporize due to being heated by the engine, by the local climate or due to a lower boiling point at high altitude. In regions where fuels with lower viscosity (and lower boiling threshold) are used during the winter to improve engine startup, continued use of the specialized fuels during the summer can cause vapor lock to occur more readily.

vapour lock
Vapour lock is a problem that can occur in an internal combustion engine fuel system, when the liquid fuel changes state from liquid to gas while still in the fuel delivery system. This fuel vapour can cause blockages within the fuel system, preventing liquid fuel from reaching the engine and therefore causing the engine to malfunction or stop running. This condition is more common in carbureted engines and in situations where high fuel temperatures and fuel line pressure are present.
