  1. TLC

TLC is an American girl group whose repertoire spanned R&B, hip hop, soul, funk, and new jack swing. Originally consisting of singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, the group found unprecedented success in the 1990s while also enduring a series of spats with the law, each other, and the group's record label. Initially, TLC achieved commercial success following the release of their debut album Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip, which sold 6 million copies worldwide. However, it was their second album, CrazySexyCool, that catapulted the group to superstar status. CrazySexyCool went on to be certified diamond by the RIAA— a first for a female group, and eventually sold 23 million copies worldwide. Five years later, the group released their third album FanMail, which became the group's first album to debut at number one and sold more than 11 million copies worldwide. The subsequent tour following FanMail's release became the highest grossing tour of all time by a female band. In 2002, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died in a car accident in Honduras. Seven months later, T-Boz and Chilli released the group's fourth album 3D, which sold 2 million copies worldwide, scored the Top 40 hit Girl Talk and earned two Grammy Awards nominations, it featured unreleased vocals from Left Eye.

Sample Sentences & Example Usage

  1. Jim Duggar says he:

They won't succeed, our show is the No. 1 show on TLC. It's a small group creating this fuss.

  2. Mama June:

Just got a phone call this morning from TLC, and as of right now there will be no more production of the show.

  3. Glenn Selig:

It would be wise for TLC to cancel the show at this point rather than hold off on making that decision, sexual abuse is a tough matter to overcome.

  4. Douglas Wilson:

I do n’t know they have all the evidence they need to make the best decision, it ’s also not clear whether their audience will perceive TLC as groundbreaking for continuing to tell the story, or foolhardy for maintaining the Duggars. In other words, can TLC keep the Duggars on the air without appearing to be part of the problem ?

  5. Tim Winter:

TLC once stood for The Learning Channel…and now it stands for Totally Ludacris Content, it’s pathetic and it’s desperate. It’s a strategic blunder. You have to have a brand for your programing and a program like ‘Sex in Public’ is going to help nobody. It may be clever in terms of ‘oh they’re going to a food court to talk to about their sexual appetite’ but at the end of the day this is explicit content, it’s on a network that has built a brand on other types of content. I just don’t think it’s going to fit.
