Thermal resistance is a heat property and a measurement of a temperature difference by which an object or material resists a heat flow. Thermal resistance is the reciprocal of thermal conductance. In terms of insulation, the thermal resistance is measured by the R-value. Thermal resistance R has the units /W in SI units or /Btu in imperial units. Specific thermal resistance or specific thermal resistivity Rλ in /W is a material constant. Absolute thermal resistance Rₜₕ in K/W is a specific property of a component. For example, Rₜₕ is a characteristic of a heat sink.
